OUR NAME:
The Totara is a huge, native, ancient tree that grows for hundreds of years in the forests of New Zealand. It stands tall, mighty and proud, and is renowned for its commanding presence and contribution to the land and environment in which it grows; nourishing and sustaining life around it. For a Totara tree to fall is a great tragedy.

In Māori mythology, Tāne is the god of the forests and of birds.

In 2023, Jane’s father in New Zealand passed away following a long struggle with his health. A beautiful sympathy card was received by her family after his passing. In this card was written the message:

“Kua hinga he Tōtara i te wao nui a Tāne” - A Totara has fallen in the forest of Tāne.

The concept of the Totara tree is firmly interwoven with the psychosocial support provided through our business. Our aim is to help individuals build strength and resilience, with a determination to hold steadfast during challenging times. We also acknowledge that we are all part of a greater whole, and that we all need support from our wider community at some point.
